Hello all,

I have one of the new HP Elite x 2 1012 G tablets and I cannot make it boot from an external USB DVD drive.

HP supply a bootable Windows 10 OS DVD to allow re-installation of the OS so I assume it should be able to boot from it. However, I cannot get the BIOS to recognise the drive as a boot device. There's no problem booting from a bootable USB thumb drive but I believe the machine should be able to boot from a DVD drive also.

I. I have explored all the BIOS options for disabling Secure Boot and enabling Legacy boot and so on. Only the USB thumb drive appears in the boot options list.

2. I tried connecting the DVD drive to a powered USB hub which has a dedicated 2.0A port for this purpose. (HP 1st level tech support suggested that the USB port cannot supply enough power). However, this didn't work. The DVD drive isn't recognised by the BIOS.

Is it possible HP designed the tablet this way and this is just a design limitation. I find it hard to believe this to be the case but who knows?

Can anyone enlighten me on this?

Thanks in advance

I didn't find the right solution from the internet.
